French Onion Chicken Casserole Total Cost $13.46



 *This is my version of a French Onion Chicken Casserole. 

Most ingredients used are Great Value Brand to be Budget Friendly.

I have included the cost for these items so you know exactly how much I spent on this meal,

if you are like me and are trying to budget.



Ingrediants Needed:

1lb Chicken Breast $2.11
1 bag Egg Noodles (Great Value Brand 16oz) $1.43
1 Onion $0.78
1 Packet Onion Soup Mix (Lipton Recipe Secrets) $1.68
1 can Cream of Mushroom (Great Value Brand) $0.58
1 bag Mozzarella Shredded Cheese (Great Value Brand 16oz) $2.22
1 bag Parmesan Shredded Cheese (Great Value Brand 6oz) $2.22
1 bag French Fried Onions (Great Value Brand 6oz) $2.44
1tsp Butter
2tsp Salt
1tsp Pepper
1tsp Onion Powder
1 1/2 Cups Water


Total Cost $13.46
(Based on spices already in stock)

*Preheat Oven 400 Degrees Fahrenheit*

Step 1

Place 1tsp Butter and 1tsp Olive Oil in Flat Pan,
Place Pan on Medium High Heat,
Slice Onions,
Place Onions in Pan and Sautee' for about 30 minutes until Carmelized
(About 15 Minutes in add a sprinkle of sugar and salt to help with carmelization)



Step 2

While Onions are Carmelizing,
Start Cooking Chicken,
I use an Instant Pot by adding 1 Cup of Water,
Place Chicken Breat Flat on the Bottom,
Add in 1tsp Onion Powder, Salt, and Pepper
Manually Cook for 10 Minutes,
Let Natural Release for 5 minutes,
Then Manually Release,
Take Out and Shred.



Step 3

While Chicken is Cooking,
Bring Pot of Water and 1 tsp Salt to a Boil
Place Noodles in Boiling Water,
Cook Noodles Until Tender,
Drain



Step 4

In Pan w/Carmalized Onions,
Add Can of Cream of Mushroom, 
Packet of Onion Mix, 
and 1/2 Cup of Water,
Cook on Medium Until Mixture Thickens to a Gravy



Step 5

Add Shredded Chicken to Gravy,
Stir Together



Step 6

Place Noodles and Chicken Gravy Mix 
into a 9x11 Casserole Dish and Mix Together
Add In Mozzarella and Parmesan Cheese and Mix Again



Step 7

Cover Dish with Aluminum Foil, 
Bake at 400 Degrees for 20 Minutes


Step 8

Take Dish Out, 
Add French Friend Onions on Top,
Leave Uncovered,
Bake for 5 More Minutes
