Cheesy Louisiana Cajun Jambalaya - Total Cost $12.35

People often ask the difference between Gumbo and Jambalaya,
the difference is pretty simple,
Gumbo is more of a stew or soup served over little rice,
Jambalaya is made with rice cooked into the dish.

*This is my version of an easy, one pot Cheesy Louisiana Jambalaya.

Most ingredients used are Great Value Brand to be Budget Friendly.

I have included the cost for these items so you know exactly how much I spent on this meal,

if you are like me and are trying to budget your meals.

🌶 Warning-Spicy 🌶

This meal is spicy, like most Louisiana dishes.

If you're not into spicy foods, this is not for you.

My family lived in Louisiana for 6 years,

so we are used to this type of dish.

Probably not a kid-friendly meal if your kids aren't used to spicy foods.

Our kids love Jambalaya, especially when it's cheesy.

STEP 1)

SMOKED SAUSAGE

FROZEN SEASONING BLEND

Slice Smoked Sausage into even pieces.
It doesn't have to be fancy.

Add Sliced Smoked Sausage, 1/4 Cup of Olive Oil, and 1tsbsp of Cajun Seasoning
to Large Pan or Pot.

On Medium Heat, Cook Sausage for 5 Minutes.
Turn Sausage over every minute or so to prevent burning.

Add Frozen Seasoning Blend to Pan
with Cooked Smoked Sausage.

Cook on Medium for another 5 minutes
until Onions are Semi Translucent.

Cover Smoked Sausage Seasoning Blend
on Low Heat and let Simmer for 5 more minutes.

Uncover once Sausage and Seasoning Blend are cooked.

STEP 2)

JAMBALAYA

With Sausage and Seasoning Blend,
Add in 2 Cups of Chicken Broth,
2 Cups of Uncooked Long Grain Rice,
2Tbsp Cajun Seasoning
(or more per flavor and spice preference),
1Tbsp Garlic Powder,
1tsp Salt, 1tsp Pepper

(You CANNOT use Instant Rice for this Recipe,
It will be mushy and soggy)

Stir and Combine all Ingredients Together

Cover Pan and let Simmer
on Low Heat for 10 minutes.

Uncover again,
Stir to bring rice to top,
and Cover again on Low Heat
for another 10 Minutes until Chicken Broth is completely
absorbed and Rice is fully cooked.

Once Chicken Broth is fully absorbed
and Rice is completely cooked,
Add in 2 packets of Velveeta Cheese
and stir all together.
